The Reserve Bank of India announced on 22 October 2026 that the final redemption price for Sovereign Gold Bonds (SGB) 2018-19 Series II has been fixed at ₹14,425 per unit. The bonds were issued on 23 October 2018 and reach their final redemption date on 23 October 2026, on completion of eight years.
The original scheme terms, notified by the Government of India under F.No.4(22)-B(W&M)/2018 dated 8 October 2018, provide for repayment after eight years from the issue date. The RBI release confirms that the specified series is due for final redemption on 23 October 2026.
The redemption price is determined using the simple average of the closing prices of gold of 999 purity for the three preceding business days, as published by the India Bullion and Jewellers Association Ltd. For this redemption, RBI used the prices for 19 October, 21 October and 22 October 2026.
Investors holding this particular SGB series should use the officially announced ₹14,425 per-unit amount when reconciling their final redemption proceeds. This rate is specific to SGB 2018-19 Series II; it should not be treated as the redemption rate for other tranches.
For accounting and tax review, the amount may be relevant to recording redemption proceeds and determining the treatment of the investment under the applicable law. The RBI release itself specifies the redemption price and date, not any new tax exemption, tax rate or return-filing requirement.
