RBI Extends Directions on Suri Friends’ Union Co-operative Bank Until 22 January 2027

The RBI has extended its existing directions on The Suri Friends’ Union Co-operative Bank Ltd., West Bengal, by three months, through the close of business on 22 January 2027. Existing terms remain unchanged, and the extension is subject to review.

Press Release 2026-2027/1367

The Reserve Bank of India announced on 22 October 2026 that the directions imposed on The Suri Friends’ Union Co-operative Bank Ltd., Suri, West Bengal, will remain in operation for a further three months, through the close of business on 22 January 2027. The extension is subject to review.

The original directions were issued under Section 35A read with Section 56 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949, through Directive No. CO.DOS.SED.No.S2574/12-07-005/2022-23 dated 21 July 2022. Their operation had most recently been extended until the close of business on 22 October 2026 under Directive No. DOR.MON.D-25/12.29.046/2026-27 dated 14 July 2026.

The RBI has now extended that period from the close of business on 22 October 2026 to the close of business on 22 January 2027. The central bank stated that all other terms and conditions of the existing directions remain unchanged. It also cautioned that an extension or modification should not, by itself, be interpreted as indicating satisfaction with the bank’s financial position.

This is an extension of existing supervisory directions, not an announcement of a new regulatory framework or fresh restrictions. Depositors and other stakeholders should consult the original directions and subsequent modifications for the applicable operational conditions; the 22 October press release does not itself restate those conditions.

For financial-sector compliance teams, the practical update is the revised end date and the continuing application of the existing directions, subject to any further RBI review or order.
