AI Summary

This guide follows the supported proprietorship and partnership workflow in assureFinancials at assureoffice.in. It covers client and financial-year setup, Tally and Excel inputs, old financials, previous ITR imports, trial-balance review, grouping and amount edits. It explains proprietor and partner capital, stock, book depreciation, tax depreciation and disclosures. It then covers Financials (ICAI), current-year Traditional Financials, PDF/Excel outputs, ITR compilation with prefill and previous-return information, tax mapping, pending checks and generated files. It distinguishes ITR draft JSON from the separate CompuTax financial Excel .xls export and explains the review needed in receiving tax software. Backup, restore and client management complete the workflow. The article contains 37 numbered sections and 50 FAQs.

A complete practical guide to client setup, Tally and Excel imports, capital accounts, depreciation, traditional financials, tax-data preparation, downloads and backup.

A proprietorship or partnership financial statements assignment often starts with scattered information: a Tally trial balance, last year's Excel accounts, a capital working, stock figures and a filed income-tax return. The real task is to connect those sources into a consistent set of accounts and then carry the reviewed financial information into the tax-return process.

assureFinancials, available through assureOffice at https://assureoffice.in, provides a workspace for that journey. You can prepare and review Financials (ICAI), present the same reviewed figures in Traditional Financials, generate an ITR draft JSON for the supported tax-software workflow and download a CompuTax financial import workbook.

This guide explains the process from a new client to final outputs, including what each input contributes, where changes must be made and which review steps remain after a file is generated.

One format distinction matters at the start: ITR JSON is a JSON file; the CompuTax financial export in this workflow is an Excel .xls file. They are separate outputs with different purposes.

1. Understand what you are preparing

The financial statements normally bring together the Balance Sheet, Profit and Loss information, comparative figures, accounting policies, notes and the other disclosures applicable to the entity. Supporting workings explain amounts such as capital, fixed assets, depreciation, inventory, receivables and payables. Cash Flow presentation depends on the entity's applicable requirements and the reviewed options selected in the app.

In assureFinancials, two presentation views serve different reading needs:

  • Financials (ICAI): the main non-corporate financial statement presentation, including the relevant notes and CY/PY comparative information.
  • Traditional Financials: the current-year traditional presentation, including the applicable Trading and P&L statements, Balance Sheet, capital accounts, depreciation chart and supporting schedules.

These views should reflect the same final financial figures. Traditional Financials is not a separate place to maintain an unrelated second set of books.

The tax-data stage is separate again. A book profit, a capital closing balance and book depreciation are financial-accounting figures. The return may need additional classifications, adjustments, tax depreciation, credits and other information before it can be completed and filed.

2. Confirm the supported entity and assignment

The complete workflow in this article focuses on Proprietorship and Partnership, the entities supported by the current Traditional Financials and connected ITR draft workspace.

For this workflow, the app prepares the supported ITR-3 draft for a proprietorship and ITR-5 draft for a partnership. Check the assessee's actual return-form eligibility for the relevant assessment year; the software's available draft form is not, by itself, a conclusion about which return must legally be filed.

The wider client-creation menu includes other entity types. Their presence does not establish that every Traditional Financials or tax-export feature in this article is available for them. LLP is a separate entity workflow, and HUF or other entities should be checked against their actual enabled screens rather than treated as identical to a proprietorship.

Also decide whether you are preparing final accounts, a provisional set, a bank-purpose set or a revised version. Make that distinction visible in the financial assignment's type and version name.

3. Collect the data before creating the financials

Keep the following information ready, to the extent available:

  • Business name, entity type, PAN, address and office File No.
  • Proprietor's legal name, or the partnership's partner details and agreed account method.
  • Current and previous reporting dates.
  • Current-year TB and the previous year's final financial statements or TB.
  • Tally access through the local connector, or the supported Tally export files.
  • Existing financial statements Excel files if those are the available starting point.
  • Capital contributions, drawings, partner ratios and other capital-account movements.
  • Inventory and closing-stock information.
  • Fixed asset additions, use dates, disposals, book depreciation and tax depreciation information.
  • Relevant ageing, borrowing, tax, related-party and other disclosure details.
  • The previous year's filed ITR JSON and current-year Prefill JSON for the tax stage, where available.
  • Auditor and appropriate proprietor or partner signing information.

Record whether each source uses absolute rupees, thousands, lakhs or another unit. Identify which previous-year version was actually approved. A provisional workbook and a signed final set can contain different figures for the same year.

Choose a primary books source for each year. Add supporting sources for the information they contain; do not repeatedly replace the same year's balances simply because several different files are available.

4. Sign in and create the client

Open assureOffice at https://assureoffice.in and enter assureFinancials. Complete email verification if the Clients page shows it as pending; client creation and import require a verified email address.

For a manual start, choose Clients → + New Client → Create Manually.

  1. Select Proprietorship or Partnership Firm, as appropriate.
  2. Enter the business or firm name that should appear on the accounts.
  3. Enter the optional File No.; do not reuse another client's unique reference.
  4. Enter the correct PAN and address.
  5. For a proprietorship, enter the separate Proprietor Name. The business name and the individual's name need not be identical.
  6. For a partnership, review the Partner Account Method: fixed capital or fluctuating capital, according to the firm's records and agreement.
  7. Complete the other applicable registration and master fields.
  8. Answer whether previous-year financial statements exist.
  9. Choose Create Client.

“First-year financials” refers to the entity's actual first financial statements. An established business being added to assureFinancials for the first time should not be treated as a new business merely because it is new to the app.

Manual client creation establishes identity. You must next create the financial assignment.

5. Create the financial year, comparative period and version

Open the client and choose + New financial.

  1. Enter the current period's start and end dates.
  2. Select Final or Provisional.
  3. Enter a useful version name, such as Main, Working or Bank.
  4. Review whether comparative figures are required and enter their dates.
  5. Select the reporting unit and decimal display.
  6. Where an approved previous-year financial is already saved, consider Copy PY from a saved financial.
  7. Confirm that the selected source's dates match the new comparative period.
  8. Choose Create financial and review the assignment opened in the Import workspace.

The optional copy brings the selected saved financial's CY figures, grouping and supported workings into the new financial's PY slot. It does not supply the new current year's transactions.

If you do not copy an existing financial, establish PY through an appropriate input route. Confirm the generated label, active version and dates in the Financials List before importing anything.

For an FY ending 31 March 2026, review the corresponding AY 2026–27 at the tax stage. Do not confuse financial-year labels with assessment-year labels.

Where paid access is enabled, check the client's access for the relevant financial year. A trial or locked-access message can affect preparation or the type of export available.

6. Review Entity Classification & AS Applicability

Open the AS control in Financials, which opens Entity Classification & AS Applicability, to review the period's classification and financial statement options.

  1. Open Criteria Test.
  2. Review the assessment status and any manual override.
  3. Enter or verify PY turnover excluding other income, in the units requested on this screen.
  4. Review closing borrowings as a reference and confirm maximum borrowings during PY from the underlying records.
  5. Review listing, financial-entity and relevant group-relationship questions.
  6. Record the professional basis if using a manual classification override.
  7. Review the AS Applicability summary.
  8. Review Financial Statement Options, including the applicable Cash Flow, deferred-tax, related-party and other presentation choices.
  9. Review Note / Policy Wording so it accurately describes the entity's treatment.
  10. Choose Save Applicability Profile and inspect the resulting financials. Use Regenerate from criteria only when you intend to replace the generated policy wording.

Do not treat prefilled zeros, a default badge or preselected relaxation options as evidence that the business qualifies. Confirm the actual facts and the requirements applicable to the assignment.

This assessment controls relevant presentation and disclosure visibility; it does not rewrite TB amounts, grouping, audit entries or saved workings. If a statement or note is no longer displayed, check the assessment and output options as well as the underlying data.

The classification terminology in this screen must also be distinguished from the supplier information needed for MSME-related payable disclosures. They are separate reviews with different purposes.

7. Choose the appropriate starting route

The main work sequence across the non-corporate sidebar is Import → Trial Balance → Signing & Other → Financials (ICAI). Most disclosure workings are reached from the relevant note's Edit Note action. Traditional Financials is available as an additional presentation.

Choose the route matching your source:

  • Master Template: structured TB and supported disclosure input in the app's Excel template.
  • Trial Balance Export / Import: a controlled selected-year TB correction or replacement using the app's expected columns.
  • Tally connector: fetch supported data from the accessible Tally company.
  • Tally files: upload accounting masters and ledger-wise TB exports.
  • Old Financials Excel / Quick Convertor: read supported existing traditional accounts, review them and save the generated result into the app.
  • Filed ITR-3 or ITR-5: establish an eligible previous-year financial baseline from reported return figures.
  • Another Client: copy a compatible selected year from another authorised record.
  • Client backup: restore a previously exported assureFinancials client.

The corporate-only flexible Trial Balance import tab, corporate Excel Financials uploader, ROC Docs and SAP Business One routes should not be assumed to appear for a proprietorship or partnership. The non-corporate TB screen still has its own Excel Export TB and Import TB controls.

8. Prepare data through the Master Template

Open Import → Excel & PDF.

For a genuine first financial year:

  1. Choose Download Template.
  2. Read the workbook's instructions and fill the supported input areas.
  3. Enter the TB and available disclosure data using the prescribed structure and grouping choices.
  4. Save the workbook and choose Upload Filled.
  5. Review the preview and select the intended sections.
  6. Choose Confirm & Import Selected.
  7. Review the resulting current-year TB and financial statements.

For an established business with previous-year accounts:

  1. Choose Download PY Template for the PY slot displayed.
  2. Fill the previous year's information. The “Current Year” columns in this PY file represent the year being imported as PY.
  3. Use Upload Filled PY, review the selected sections and confirm.
  4. Choose Download CY Template after the PY baseline is ready.
  5. Review the prefilled opening and comparative information.
  6. Fill current-year figures, new ledgers and the year's changes.
  7. Use Upload Filled CY, review the preview and confirm the intended sections.
  8. Inspect both years and any carry-forward alerts in the app.

Selected template sections replace their existing counterparts. Review the selection carefully when data is already present.

The Clients → + New Client → Import Template Excel shortcut is for an already-filled PY/CY app template. Download a fresh assignment-specific template from inside the intended client's financial workspace.

If later PY audit adjustments alter the closing balances, review Sync CY Opening. It updates CY TB openings from the adjusted PY closing; current-year debit and credit movements, grouping and audit adjustments remain separate. Recheck the resulting CY balances after using it.

9. Import or correct a TB through the Trial Balance screen

Open Trial Balance and select Current Year TB or Previous Year TB.

For an Excel-based correction, start with Export TB so the workbook has the expected headings and structure. Preserve its required fields, including ledgerName, opening, debit, credit, type, primaryGroup and secondaryGroup, and any additional helper columns. Review the exported ledger names, source amounts and supported grouping fields.

  1. Confirm the selected year and download Export TB.
  2. Make the intended source-data corrections in the workbook.
  3. Preserve the required headers and the full set of rows you want to retain.
  4. Save as .xlsx or .xlsm and choose Import TB for the same intended year.
  5. Review the detected columns, changed rows, totals and replacement warning.
  6. Resolve blocking errors and upload again if needed, then choose Confirm Re-import only after checking the complete selected-year result.
  7. Review the saved TB and the associated recovery checkpoint.

This is a full selected-year TB replacement, not an instruction to add only the few edited rows. Rows omitted from the replacement file can be removed, and blank grouping is treated as blank rather than a promise to retain an earlier mapping. Books Closing is recomputed from opening plus debit minus credit; typing a different closing total does not override that calculation. Review AE Impact and Adjusted Closing separately. Preserve a client backup before a significant replacement.

For a small correction, selecting the ledger and using Edit TB Row can be more direct. Review opening, debit and credit, inspect the calculated closing, record a reason and choose Save & Refresh. Check the effect on adjusted balances and financial statements afterwards.

Use Add Ledger where a genuine ledger is missing. Do not add a duplicate ledger merely to force a statement total to match another file.

10. Import Tally data through the local connector

Open Import → Tally → Connect Tally Directly.

  1. Install and start the AssureFinancials Local Connector according to the supplied instructions.
  2. Run it on the computer where the intended Tally installation is available.
  3. Open Tally and load the correct company.
  4. Check the Tally connectivity settings and saved port for your installation.
  5. Use Test Connector + Tally in the app.
  6. Confirm the selected company and current reporting dates.
  7. Review Import PY TB also. Untick it for a deliberate CY-only import.
  8. Where PY is included, select the appropriate same-data or separate-data setup and verify the PY company and dates.
  9. Keep both required companies open if the years use separate Tally data.
  10. Select relevant supporting-voucher categories and review uncertain ledger selections when prompted.
  11. Set the retention choices for reviewed grouping, manual ledgers and audit adjustments before fetching.
  12. Choose Fetch Full Tally Data.
  13. Review balances, proposed grouping, capital-related information, PPE inputs, stock and warnings.
  14. Choose Import to Trial Balance after review.
  15. If prompted, choose deliberately between Update Current Financials and Create New Financial Version.
  16. Review the saved CY/PY TB and the resulting financial statements.

A Tally fetch supplies the information available through the supported workflow. It does not establish every disclosure, partner agreement term, asset-use date or invoice-ageing detail automatically.

Review contributions and withdrawals, profit-transfer ledgers, stock effects and depreciation entries especially carefully. These are common places where imported book information and a separate working can otherwise be counted twice.

11. Import through exported Tally files

Open Import → Tally → Upload Tally Files.

  1. Export All Accounting Masters as XML.
  2. Export the ledger-wise Trial Balance in the supported .xlsx or .xlsm format.
  3. Place each TB in its correct Current Year or Previous Year upload field.
  4. Provide the required CY masters XML.
  5. Supply the optional PY masters when PY data is separate or its masters and grouping differ; otherwise the workflow can use CY masters as a fallback.
  6. Review retention choices before processing.
  7. Enter or review the separate closing-stock inputs where appropriate.
  8. Choose Process Files & Preview.
  9. Review source company, dates, balances, group-only warnings and proposed mapping.
  10. Choose Import to Trial Balance and review the saved result.

The screen permits masters XML up to 200 MB and each TB workbook up to 10 MB. Use a ledger-wise export rather than a collapsed group summary.

The masters provide classification context, while the TB provides balances. Detailed asset timing, disposal proceeds, partner movements and disclosure information still need their own review.

For a new client created directly from Tally, use Clients → + New Client → Create with Tally, choose the connector or files route, fetch or process the data, then review the detected business name, entity type, proprietor or partner information, PAN, dates and units. Choose Create Client + Import TB for the connector or Create Client & Import for the file route, then inspect the newly created financial assignment.

12. Convert old traditional financials from Excel

Use the Quick Convertor / Old Financials Excel workflow when the available starting point is an old financial statements workbook rather than a clean TB.

  1. Open Convert Old Format to New / Quick Convertor → Old Financials Excel.
  2. Upload the supported .xlsx, .xlsm or .xls current-year/both-years workbook, within the displayed 30 MB limit. Use Add a separate previous-year file when appropriate.
  3. Choose Read files.
  4. Review Select financial statement sheets and select the correct Balance Sheet, Trading/P&L, capital, notes and relevant PY sheets.
  5. Choose Continue to inspect the recovered information.
  6. Confirm how the workbook's current and previous years have been interpreted.
  7. Confirm the entity type, business name, financial dates and source unit.
  8. Review the recovered TB or statement balances and their grouping.
  9. Review capital, PPE, depreciation and stock information and the source differences identified.
  10. Choose Generate Financials.
  11. Inspect the generated result and unresolved review items.
  12. Use Save & Edit in assureFinancials for a new saved client, or Save in existing client for the intended existing assignment. Sign in and complete email verification if requested; review any duplicate-client warning.
  13. In an existing-client save, select the correct client, matching entity type and financial-year dates, financial period and source-to-destination year. Choose Preview import, review the impact and tick the explicit replacement confirmation where required. Choose Save selected year.
  14. Open the saved financial in assureFinancials and complete the detailed review and tax-data workflow there.

Older .xls files depend on the available reader support. If parsing is unsuccessful, open the workbook in Excel, recalculate it, save a supported modern workbook and try again. Formula cells need usable saved results; an unavailable external link can leave gaps.

An old Balance Sheet with only summary figures cannot supply a complete original ledger history. Review the level of detail recovered and obtain supporting records for unresolved balances or workings.

Saving a generated year into an existing client is a replacement operation. It can replace the target year's TB, adjustments, splits, PPE/FAR and relevant saved workings. Download a whole-client backup before applying it. Do not assume that this route retains edits in the same way as a Tally re-import.

The public converter's available direct outputs are financial PDF and Excel variants. Save the assignment into assureFinancials to continue with Traditional Financials, ITR JSON and CompuTax Excel in the client workspace.

13. Use a previous filed ITR to establish PY financials

Open Import → Income Tax JSON when the previous year's filed ITR is an available source for comparative financial information.

  1. Upload the relevant filed ITR-3 or ITR-5 through Import File.
  2. Review the assessee's identity, PAN, form, assessment year and underlying financial year.
  3. Confirm that it corresponds to the active financial's immediately preceding PY slot.
  4. Open the saved source and choose Use as PY Financials where eligible.
  5. Review the proposed reported financial figures and the Balance Sheet/P&L controls.
  6. Resolve an existing-PY-data conflict rather than importing over an unrelated baseline. Existing non-ITR PY TB blocks this route; a prior ITR-derived baseline can be replaced after the controls are reviewed.
  7. Choose Import as Previous Year Financials or Replace Previous Year ITR Financials, as appropriate.
  8. Inspect the resulting PY figures, capital working and disclosures.
  9. Complete the details not available in the return.

The return contributes reported figures. It does not normally supply the original ledger opening and transaction history or every financial note.

For partnership cases, the app can conditionally build a PY capital bridge using reported return details and matching CY partner opening balances. Review the partners, ratios, remuneration, reported closing capital and any derived opening figures. A successfully constructed bridge still needs to agree with the firm's approved records.

Using an ITR to establish PY financials is different from uploading the same filed return as a supporting source in the current-year ITR JSON workspace. The first action affects the financial baseline; the second supports tax-data compilation.

14. Copy data from another client record

Open the destination financial and choose Import → Another Client.

  1. Search for the authorised source client.
  2. Select its financial period and named version.
  3. Choose the source CY or PY.
  4. Choose the destination CY or PY.
  5. Confirm compatible entity type and matching year dates.
  6. Choose Preview import.
  7. Review the exact selected-year replacement scope and confirm replacement if the destination already contains data.
  8. Choose Import selected year.
  9. Open the destination financial and check its TB, capital, PPE and other copied workings.

The copy concerns the selected destination year. Check that the intended source record and the destination's other year remain as expected.

Do not use another entity's data as a shortcut merely because the layout looks similar. Company, proprietor, partner and period identity must be reviewed before importing financial records.

15. Review the TB and first draft

After establishing the source, open Trial Balance and review both available year tabs.

  • Check the ledger coverage and the source totals.
  • Review opening, debit, credit, Books Closing, AE Impact and Adjusted Closing.
  • Compare relevant CY Balance Sheet openings with the intended PY closing balances.
  • Complete unresolved grouping.
  • Review personal transactions, capital transfers, customer credits, supplier debits and other unusual balances.
  • Review stock and depreciation already included in the source books.
  • Inspect any existing audit adjustments before adding further entries.

Then open Financials (ICAI) and check the Balance Sheet, P&L and relevant note sections. Confirm that the business name, proprietor or firm identity, current year, comparative year and unit are correct.

Treat a generated draft as the starting point for review. A balanced Balance Sheet can still contain an incorrect classification, a duplicated expense, an incomplete policy or an unsupported capital movement.

16. Correct grouping, splits and note detail

Grouping connects the ledger to its financial statement category. Review it from the TB or the relevant note's Edit Note → Grouping & Ledgers controls.

  1. Select the ledger and inspect its actual business purpose.
  2. Choose the appropriate financial group.
  3. Check whether the action applies to CY, PY or matching ledgers in both years.
  4. Save the grouping.
  5. Reopen the affected statement and note.
  6. Review comparative consistency and any remaining classification warning.

Use Split when one adjusted closing balance legitimately belongs in more than one category. Confirm that the allocation totals equal the original balance. A classification split does not create a separate accounting entry.

Use Review & Reclassify Balances for customer credits, supplier debits and similar opposite balances after understanding the underlying transaction. A supplier advance and an unpaid supplier invoice should not automatically be presented in the same way.

Presentation tools have a different purpose. Show Line Items or the relevant Ledger Bifurcation controls can display the ledgers supporting eligible note lines without changing the controlling total. Review line ordering and consolidated-versus-detailed presentation, save and inspect the result.

Use Match CY/PY where the same ledger has inconsistent grouping between years. Review proposed changes individually when the business substance has genuinely changed.

17. Edit amounts through the appropriate route

The non-corporate workflow provides several ways to correct financial information. Choose the one that matches the issue.

TB input correction: select the year and row, use Edit TB Row, review the source fields and calculated closing, record the reason and save.

Accounting adjustment: open Audit Adjustments, select the year, date and ledgers, enter the debit and credit lines and narration, verify balance and choose Save Entry. Add a missing genuine ledger to TB before selecting it for an adjustment. Review AE Impact and Adjusted Closing afterwards.

Quick financial adjustment: where the financial toolbar provides this action, select the debit and credit ledgers, amount and reason, review the grouping and use Save & Refresh. Inspect the effect on both sides of the accounts.

Eligible note amount editing: use Edit (Temp.) on an eligible non-corporate note, edit the permitted individual CY/PY lines in the displayed reporting unit and choose Save & Refresh. Despite the label, the saved manual effect can appear in regenerated financial outputs. It does not simply overwrite the original imported TB, and it is not automatically a balanced accounting entry. Totals, subtotals and formula cells remain protected. Capital/current accounts and inventory use dedicated workings; PPE also follows its specialised working.

Working correction: use the capital, PPE, inventory or disclosure working when the error arises there. Saving a working and posting an accounting adjustment are not always the same action.

After any edit, review the note, financial statement and reconciliation. Where manual edits exist, inspect Original BS Diff, Manual Edit Diff and Final BS Diff. Open View / Reset to review the Amount edits register, including the original amount, manual amount and difference. Use an individual Reset, Reset all manual edits or Download to Excel as needed for the review.

The Manual edits ON/OFF control compares rendered results; switching it off is not the same as deleting the saved edit. Reset removes the active effect while retaining the review history. An active overlay can also require review or reset before detailed Edit Note is available. Confirm the intended manual-edit state before final downloads.

For example, a missing ₹12,000 rent accrual calls for a reviewed debit to expense and credit to the appropriate payable. If the same accrual later appears in a revised Tally TB, review the retained app adjustment so it is not counted twice.

18. Prepare the proprietor's capital account

For a proprietorship, verify the Proprietor Name in the client master. Open the capital note's Edit Note action to review its calculation.

  1. Select the relevant CY or PY working.
  2. Review opening capital against the approved preceding closing.
  3. Enter or verify capital introduced during the year.
  4. Enter or verify withdrawals or drawings.
  5. Review the profit or loss linked from the final P&L.
  6. Inspect the calculated closing capital.
  7. Review the source or reconciliation information provided.
  8. Where an explicit Post AE option is offered, inspect the proposed accounts and effect before enabling it.
  9. Choose Save selected year and inspect the capital note and Balance Sheet. Use Reset this year's Calculation edits only when you intend to remove that year's saved calculation changes.
  10. Recheck Traditional Financials and the tax-data result after the accounts have been updated.

If the approved PY closing changes, review the CY opening difference and use Update from PY closing only when it is the appropriate basis, then save the selected year. The Partner allocations / source working link provides access to the underlying source-working review where needed.

The normal movement logic is opening capital plus contributions plus the relevant profit, less drawings and other supported movements. Use that relationship to review the working, not to invent an opening or contribution that makes an unexplained difference disappear.

Do not count a profit-transfer ledger as a fresh capital contribution when profit is already linked from P&L. Review personal payments, introductions and withdrawals according to the actual underlying transactions.

19. Prepare partners' capital and current accounts

Start by reviewing the firm's Partner Account Method in its profile. Establish or correct the partner roster through Entity Profile → Partners / Proprietor, then review the generated capital rows. Fixed capital and fluctuating capital can direct profit and current movements to different accounts.

Open the relevant capital or current-account note and choose Edit Note.

  1. Review the CY and PY partner tables separately.
  2. Check each partner's distinct name and the relevant year's profit-sharing percentage.
  3. Make sure the percentages for every edited year total 100%.
  4. Review opening balances, contributions, remuneration, interest and withdrawals.
  5. Review the profit or loss drawn from the final P&L and its allocation by that year's percentages.
  6. Inspect calculated closing balances and the totals for the account being edited.
  7. For a separate current-account method, confirm that profit is allocated to the intended current account once.
  8. Choose Save & Update Note.
  9. Review the resulting capital/current-account notes, Balance Sheet and Traditional Financials.
  10. Reconcile remuneration and interest with the corresponding P&L treatment and tax preparation.

The current partner editor saves only the years you edit. It updates the working, note and related financial presentation; it does not automatically change TB or post an audit entry.

Remuneration and interest entered in this capital table are capital movements. Review and correct the corresponding P&L expense separately where necessary. Do not assume that entering a partner movement automatically creates its expense entry in the books.

The current capital-note flow uses linked profit and the reviewed allocation table. Do not look for a compulsory separate “Distribute Profit” button in every capital note.

20. Complete PPE and book depreciation

Open the fixed-assets or PPE note and its Edit Note working. For the supported proprietorship and partnership workflow, review the specialised Calculation and Reconciliation views.

  1. Select CY or PY.
  2. Review the asset-wise opening gross amount and accumulated depreciation.
  3. Review asset/ledger descriptions and additions split between ≥180 and <180 days; verify timing against the source records.
  4. Review deletions or disposals and the associated depreciation released.
  5. Enter or verify the book depreciation used in the accounts.
  6. Inspect calculated closing gross amount, accumulated depreciation and carrying value.
  7. Review CY opening against PY closing.
  8. Where appropriate, review the TB adjustment accounts and explicit Post AE choice.
  9. Choose Save PPE Working & Update Note.
  10. Reconcile the working against the relevant TB groups and financial note.

A working save does not mean the TB has received a new depreciation entry. Review explicit posting choices and amounts already present in the imported books. Avoid recording the same depreciation through both a source TB entry and an additional app adjustment.

If PY changes, save the revised PY working, switch to CY, review the opening difference and use Update from PY closing only when appropriate. Save and reconcile CY again.

Where a full FAR is used, review individual assets and their category, movement and depreciation treatment. Computer software and other intangible assets need the correct classification and note placement.

Book depreciation and income-tax depreciation are separate calculations. Asset-use dates, less-than-180-day additions, tax block rates, disposal proceeds and opening tax WDV are reviewed again at the tax stage; do not substitute a book carrying amount for tax WDV without an appropriate basis.

21. Complete stock, purchases and the trading result

Use Update Stock and the relevant inventory or Purchase, Inventory & COGS Working controls to review the stock effect.

  1. Confirm opening stock and its connection with the preceding closing.
  2. Review purchases, direct costs and business-specific inventory categories.
  3. Enter or verify closing stock from the supporting records.
  4. Check whether the source TB already includes the closing-stock effect.
  5. Review the proposed stock treatment before applying an additional entry or working update.
  6. In Add / Edit Closing Stock, enter the final CY/PY stock totals by inventory head in Absolute INR. Review the included TB-linked amount; the quick working saves the balancing manual component. Use Add inventory head where appropriate, then Save & Update Financials.
  7. Review the resulting Trading Account or manufacturing presentation in Traditional Financials.

Where the Stock Summary import is available, upload the supported XML or Excel, inspect the item-level preview, units, quantities, values and total, then commit only the reviewed data. The workflow has its own accepted formats and file limits; use its template or instructions rather than an unrelated stock report.

The quick stock action updates the shared Purchase, Inventory & COGS Working; it does not create a new closing-stock TB ledger. Recheck Balance Sheet inventory and the corresponding P&L or trading effect after saving.

A closing-stock figure appearing in Tally P&L but absent from the TB needs deliberate treatment. Likewise, an imported inventory ledger plus a separate stock working can create duplication if both are treated as independent new amounts.

For service businesses, review the business mode and expense classification rather than forcing a trading or stock structure into an assignment that does not need it.

22. Complete policies, notes and other disclosures

In the non-corporate workflow, open the relevant financial note and use Edit Note. Review the tabs and actions provided for that particular working. Save each change and inspect the rendered note afterwards.

Work through the applicable areas:

  • Entity information and policies: business description, basis of preparation and accounting policies consistent with the actual accounts.
  • Cash and bank balances: composition, ledger classification and relevant supporting details.
  • Receivables and payables: correct classification, ageing and the underlying customer or supplier information.
  • MSME-related payables: supplier status and relevant principal, interest or other required details supported by the records.
  • Borrowings and advances: nature, terms, security, maturity and the appropriate current or non-current classification.
  • Investments and other assets: correct category, supporting amount and applicable disclosure detail.
  • Capital and current accounts: the reviewed proprietor or partner workings.
  • PPE and intangibles: asset movements, depreciation and carrying amounts.
  • Income and expenses: category detail, direct-versus-indirect classification and relevant employee or statutory workings.
  • Current and deferred tax: the appropriate accounting treatment and the financial-statement options established after applicability review.
  • Related parties: relationships, transactions and outstanding balances where applicable.
  • Contingencies, commitments and other matters: information supported by the business's facts and obligations.

Follow each screen's stated input unit. Amounts requested in INR should be entered as absolute rupees even if the output is displayed in lakhs. The AS assessment screen separately asks for certain criteria in crores; use the unit specified for that field.

Ledger balances do not establish every supporting fact. For example, an outstanding supplier balance does not itself establish the supplier's status or invoice due dates. Obtain those details from the records.

Review any available preparation or applicability tracker as well. A tracking decision or hidden note is not a substitute for completing the underlying accounting and disclosure review.

23. Review Traditional Financials from the same final figures

Open Traditional Financials after reviewing Financials (ICAI).

The traditional statements present the current year. The main ICAI financials carry the comparative information. Reconciliation and mapping screens can retain both years for control purposes even though the traditional statement output is current-year only.

  1. Check the business name, reporting period and current-year figures.
  2. Open Balance Sheet and compare the controlling amounts with Financials (ICAI).
  3. Open Trading & P&L where generated and review the income, direct costs, gross result and final profit.
  4. Review Capital Accounts where the output includes them.
  5. Review Depreciation Chart and any applicable Recovery Chart.
  6. Review Schedules, including the supporting “List of …” statements generated from the available detail.
  7. Open the information panel for Setup — ledger roles & options and Checks against ICAI.
  8. Review business mode, List A/B/C or Schedule A/B/C references, manufacturing inclusion, item/category gross-profit detail and debtor/creditor list options as relevant. In Ledger Role and Item Mapping, check the traditional role, item/segment and allocation note against the ICAI hierarchy and CY/PY amounts.
  9. Choose Save Traditional Settings after making the relevant setup changes.
  10. Open the reconciliation checks and investigate differences before treating the statements as final.

The traditional presentation uses the final ICAI figures as its controlling accounting source. Its setup and mapping options help determine presentation and supported detail; they do not replace TB, grouping, audit entries or the main financial statements.

For example, if an expense is incorrectly included in purchases, correct its underlying classification or relevant mapping after reviewing the source. Do not maintain an unrelated profit figure in the traditional view merely to match an old workbook.

Where a quantity Recovery Chart is relevant, choose its Download Template, fill the supporting quantity information, import or review the rows and use Save Recovery Chart. It supports the quantity presentation; it is not an instruction to post financial amounts into the TB.

Download the traditional statements

Open Download within Traditional Financials.

  1. Select Horizontal (T-form) or Vertical Balance Sheet layout for the individual traditional export.
  2. Choose With decimals or Without decimals in the toolbar.
  3. Download PDF or Excel.
  4. Use Combined PDF — ICAI + Traditional when you want the combined document.
  5. Open the downloaded file and inspect headings, amounts, schedules, page breaks and signing blocks.

The combined-PDF action is separate; do not assume the individual traditional Balance Sheet layout selector changes every part of the combined output.

Some reconciliation items can remain visible while draft downloads are available. A download button being enabled does not mean that the accounts have completed professional review.

24. Open the ITR JSON workspace

From Financials (ICAI) → Download → Tax Portal JSONs, choose ITR JSON. The same shortcut can also be available from the Traditional Financials Download menu.

  1. Confirm the client, entity, active financial period, ITR form and assessment year shown.
  2. Verify the PAN in the client master; use the PAN field offered in the workspace where appropriate.
  3. Review the Your financials source. The workspace reads the prepared financials directly; they do not need to be uploaded again as a separate financial file.
  4. Review whether Current Year Prefill and Previous Year Filed ITR have already been imported.
  5. Add or select the appropriate supporting files where available.
  6. Complete the source and tax-mapping review before generating the final draft version you intend to use.

The current bundled draft schemas cover ITR-3 and ITR-5 for AY 2026–27. Check the form and AY displayed by the installed version and the receiving tax software. A file that can be produced for another period should not be assumed to have been validated against that year's complete official schema.

The ITR workspace prepares a draft for import into tax software. It is not a statement that the entire tax return, all schedules and the final portal-upload file are complete.

25. Add Prefill and the previous filed return

The supporting sources have different roles.

Current Year Prefill can contribute identity, address, bank-account and tax-credit information available in that file. Previous Year Filed ITR can contribute relevant business, partner and opening tax information.

For AY 2026–27, the immediately preceding filed return is for AY 2025–26. The previous source must be a filed return of the matching form and PAN, not a Prefill file. Current Year Prefill must match the active AY and PAN. The upload workflow rejects detected identity or year mismatches.

For each source card:

  1. Open Upload, select the appropriate JSON and use Import where required. The screen may begin processing when the file is selected.
  2. Review the filename, source status, form, PAN and year after processing.
  3. If the same suitable source is available from another period, review the reference before choosing Use that file.
  4. Use Re-import when replacing an incorrect source.
  5. Use Remove source only when you intend to remove that supporting file from the workspace.
  6. After a source change, compile again and review the changed result.

Where portal retrieval is available, choose Import from Portal, start the separate Income Tax Connector, verify the account/PAN and AY, select the required document types, test the connection and fetch the selected files. Review the returned file identities rather than assuming that “last filed return” always means the exact preceding year needed.

Use Review Client Master after importing Prefill if you want to compare and deliberately apply eligible identity updates; the import may open that review automatically. Compare current and proposed values, select the intended fields and choose Apply Selected Updates. A financial-workspace source import and a client-master update are separate actions.

The previous return and Prefill support the current-year tax draft. They should not silently replace the current-year business amounts prepared in Financials (ICAI). Review the reconciliation when a source reports income or tax credits that differ from the books.

26. Confirm book-to-tax depreciation mapping

Before relying on depreciation schedules in the ITR draft, open PPE tax block mapping (separate from book PPE) in the workspace.

  1. Review whether the mapping is enabled or the existing IT Depreciation working is being used.
  2. Review each book asset and select its confirmed tax block or the explicit exclusion option.
  3. Confirm the relevant tax treatment and rate rather than treating a percentage-based suggestion as confirmed eligibility.
  4. Review additions and the relevant less-than-180-day information.
  5. Enter and confirm tax sale proceeds in the appropriate full-rate or short-period additions category, including an explicit zero where none exists.
  6. Review opening tax WDV from the preceding filed return where available.
  7. Where that source is unavailable, enter the confirmed opening tax WDV in the designated manual-opening area, including zero for a genuinely new block.
  8. Leave an unresolved fact for review rather than treating a blank field as a confirmed zero.
  9. Tick the per-asset Confirm controls after checking the block, rate and sale-proceeds inputs, then choose Save confirmed tax mapping.
  10. Compile again and inspect the tax depreciation and WDV reconciliation.

The prior filed return's closing tax WDV has priority in this mapping workflow. The app does not treat book opening value as an automatic substitute for opening tax WDV.

If using the separate IT Depreciation working, review block-wise opening tax WDV, additions in the relevant full/short-period categories, disposals, rate, calculated depreciation and closing WDV, then Save Working. That in-app working does not itself print automatically in the financial statements PDF or Excel. Any Push Difference to Deferred Tax action needs a separate review of its accounting applicability and effect.

This review affects the tax draft. It should not be mistaken for an instruction to replace the book depreciation recorded in the financial statements.

27. Compile the ITR data and review the open items

Choose Compile Data after the financials and relevant sources are ready.

Review the compiled result in this order:

  1. Confirm the form, AY, PAN and entity.
  2. Inspect the schedule-wise compilation and the source information shown.
  3. Review Balance Sheet sources and applications and any difference.
  4. Review sales or gross receipts, gross profit and profit before tax.
  5. Review the compiled capital and partner information where applicable.
  6. Review the financial-to-return classification of income and expenses.
  7. Check tax depreciation, opening WDV, additions and disposals.
  8. Review Summary and open items and each Where to fix it link.
  9. Review Prefill vs FinBuilder Reconciliation for income, TDS and TCS differences.
  10. Under Reconciliations and checks, use Show all checks and tables to inspect Review warnings, Key Import Checks, the financial summary in INR, WDV reconciliation and Field-wise Mapping Review. Use Show the incomplete fields for relevant schema findings.
  11. Complete or correct information at the appropriate source.
  12. Choose Compile again and review the updated result.

A missing PAN prevents generation of the ITR JSON in this workflow. Other issues, including an unreconciled Balance Sheet, incomplete fields or schema/AY review findings, can remain as pending items while a draft is generated. They still need resolution before the return is finalised.

The prefill reconciliation is a review report. It does not automatically post missing income or rewrite book balances. If the books require correction, make a supported change in the financial preparation workflow, then recompile the draft.

The compiler is also not a substitute for completing the assessee's entire return. Review other income, adjustments, deductions, losses, tax credits, tax calculations, declarations and unsupported schedules in the receiving tax software as applicable.

28. Generate and use the ITR draft JSON

After reviewing the compilation, choose Generate ITR JSON.

  1. Confirm that PAN and the intended form/AY are correct.
  2. Review the pending count and the meaning of any open item.
  3. Generate the draft.
  4. Open Generated Files.
  5. Identify the correct version by form, AY, status and generation time.
  6. Download that version's JSON and accompanying report.
  7. If the generated filename contains _PENDING, use the report to identify the unresolved items.
  8. Import the draft into the appropriate supported ITR-software workflow for that assessee and year.
  9. Compare the imported financial schedules with the reviewed assureFinancials output.
  10. Review taxpayer status, residential status, business codes, partner details, filing particulars, dates and verification fields. Complete the remaining return information and recalculate tax in the receiving software; generated defaults are not confirmation of the taxpayer's facts.
  11. Run its current form/AY validation and resolve errors.
  12. Generate the final portal-upload file through the receiving tax software and complete the filing and verification process separately.

The receiving software must handle its required software metadata or digest and complete the final validation. Treat the assureFinancials draft as a preparation input, not an unconditional direct-upload promise.

Where paid billing restrictions are enabled, tax JSON and CompuTax exports require the appropriate client/FY access. A successful compilation does not itself establish export access; trial restrictions can still prevent these downloads.

The advanced Download compiled data action is not the same record as a selected version in Generated Files. Review the workspace status and report even when a downloaded filename does not carry a pending suffix.

If you change financials after generating a draft, compile and generate a fresh version. A previously downloaded JSON does not update automatically.

29. Export financial data for CompuTax

Open the ITR JSON workspace and choose Download Computax Excel.

The output is .xls, using the supported CompuTax financial-import template. It is not “CompuTax JSON” and is not itself an income-tax portal upload file.

  1. Finish reviewing the financial figures and the relevant traditional-to-ICAI reconciliation.
  2. Confirm that the correct client and financial year are active.
  3. Choose Download Computax Excel.
  4. Match the downloaded filename and intended FY/AY with the active client workspace, then open and review the populated financial schedules. Confirm assessee identity in the receiving CompuTax record.
  5. Confirm the corresponding assessee and AY in your installed CompuTax software.
  6. Use the financial-data Excel import facility supported by that installed CompuTax version and select the downloaded .xls.
  7. Inspect the imported Balance Sheet, Trading/P&L and other populated financial categories.
  8. Reconcile sales, profit, capital, fixed assets, liabilities and other material amounts to assureFinancials.
  9. Complete unmapped or unsupported items and the remaining return information in CompuTax.
  10. Recalculate, validate and generate the final filing output in the receiving software.

The app can compile this financial workbook directly when you download it. A separate prior click on Compile Data, a PAN entry in this workspace, Prefill and the previous filed ITR are not prerequisites for creating this financial export. The underlying accounts must still be suitable for the intended client and assignment.

The supported workbook contains financial sheets such as BSOTHER, Trading_OTHER, P_LOTHER and relevant Other_expenses detail. It is a financial-schedule transfer rather than a complete identity, tax-credit and return-verification dataset.

The legacy CompuTax template does not contain a separate field for every modern return item. Review partner remuneration particularly carefully because the template lacks a dedicated modern ITR-5 remuneration row. Resident partner interest and other resident interest are combined in the legacy Others interest row, while non-resident interest remains separate. Complete the receiving software's intended categories after checking the import; do not force an unsupported item into an unrelated row.

The exact menu name inside CompuTax depends on its installed version. Follow that product's financial Excel-import instructions and keep the downloaded workbook's expected format intact.

30. Complete signing details and download the financial statements

Open Signing & Other for the active financial assignment.

  1. Select the auditor firm or default partner where relevant.
  2. Review signing partner name, membership number and the firm details.
  3. Enter the current period's UDIN where applicable and review the display option.
  4. Enter the signing date and place.
  5. Review the proprietor or appropriate partner signatories and their identifiers and designations.
  6. Complete the other relevant period details and choose Save Details.
  7. Inspect the financial statement and traditional signing blocks.

If using Copy from Previous Period, review the copied details for the current assignment. UDIN is not copied; enter the appropriate current-period value separately.

From Financials (ICAI) → Download, use the available output:

  • Download Full PDF: the main financial statements pack.
  • Excel — With TB & Workings: the financials with included TB and supporting workings.
  • Excel — Final Only / Without TB: the final non-corporate reporting workbook without the TB working set.

Use the separate Traditional Financials Download menu for traditional PDF, Excel and the combined PDF. Use Tax Portal JSONs for the ITR workspace and other eligible draft tools.

Inspect each downloaded file. Check names, years, units, decimals, comparative columns, notes, page breaks, long text and signing blocks. Download again after the last saved change.

Where a trial or access restriction applies, review the output status. A watermarked PDF or demo workbook should not be mistaken for the final unrestricted export.

31. Refresh working data and re-import revised books

For supported working changes in Excel, open Import → Excel & PDF → Refresh from Updated Excel.

  1. Choose Download Editable Working Excel for the intended client and financial version.
  2. Change only the permitted yellow source cells and supported input areas.
  3. Preserve workbook identifiers and structure.
  4. Choose Upload Edited Working Excel.
  5. Review the changes and target version in the preview.
  6. Choose Create Draft Version & Apply Changes.
  7. Open the new draft and recheck the affected accounts, workings and financial statements.

Final statement totals and linked formula cells are not the controlling source inputs for this refresh. Editing a downloaded final Excel does not automatically update the app.

For a revised Tally or TB source:

  1. Download a client backup before a substantial replacement.
  2. Confirm the active client, year and version.
  3. Set source-specific retention options before fetching or processing where required.
  4. Inspect the preview, changed balances and missing source ledgers.
  5. Choose the intended update or new-version action.
  6. Review retained adjustments for duplication with entries now posted in the source books.
  7. Reconcile capital, PPE, inventory and other retained workings.
  8. Review both financial presentations.
  9. Recompile ITR data and download a fresh CompuTax workbook where those outputs are being used.

Different importers have different replacement rules. Master Template, TB replacement, Tally retention, old-financials save and the Advanced / Legacy Full Replace Import are not interchangeable. Read the displayed scope before confirming.

32. Manage years, versions, master changes and recovery

Add a new year or another working version

Use + New financial for the next reporting period or a separately named assignment. Enter the correct dates, comparative dates, type and version. Use the optional saved-financial PY copy only from the approved matching source, then import the new current-year data.

For an existing open financial, its Edit action changes the relevant period settings. Relabelling an old assignment is not a substitute for establishing a new year's data.

Update the master

Use Edit master or the appropriate client profile to correct identity, address, File No., proprietor name, partner method and other applicable permanent information. Review the effect in financial headings, capital notes and subsequent tax-data compilation. Keep period-specific signing details in their period screen.

Save recovery checkpoints

Open Trial Balance → History / Restore or sidebar History, add a description and choose Save Current Version. Review saved snapshots through View. In an open financial, an older snapshot can offer Restore; inspect the replacement scope first.

Named financial assignments and history snapshots are different. History retains a limited set of supported financial-source checkpoints, not an unlimited archive of every record. Keep a whole-client backup for broader recovery and portability.

Preserve the completed financial

After final review and downloads, return to the Financials List and choose Sign & Close. Confirm that the financial becomes Signed & Closed. This locks and preserves the app's version; it does not electronically sign or file a return.

Use Create Revised if later changes are required. Review the independent editable revision while retaining the closed original. Download a fresh whole-client backup after closure when you want to preserve that closed state.

33. Back up, restore and delete records

Use the client's backup action to download the compact core backup ZIP. Keep backups before major imports, after important review stages and after finalisation.

To restore a client:

  1. Open Clients → + New Client → Import Other Files → Import Client Backup File.
  2. Select the supported client backup ZIP or compatible legacy client JSON.
  3. Choose Continue →.
  4. Review Backup Summary, identity, included periods, TB, adjustments, disclosures and integrity information.
  5. Select New client or the intended Replace existing client option where offered.
  6. Preserve the destination's current backup before a replacement.
  7. Resolve any conflicting unique File No. where necessary.
  8. Choose Import.
  9. Open the restored client and review its periods, active financial, capital, PPE, financials and relevant tax workspace.
  10. Regenerate the files needed for the restored assignment.

A whole-client backup is different from a final PDF, Excel or ITR JSON. It also differs from the import-history log and the separate financial-version snapshots. The compact backup excludes rebuildable caches and separate version-history records.

To delete an individual open financial, select its Delete action, download the required financial safety JSON, wait for the download confirmation, type DELETE and confirm the intended version. Keep a whole-client ZIP as well if you want the documented client-restore route; the individual-financial safety JSON is a different format.

To delete the entire client, use the client deletion action, download the mandatory compact core backup ZIP, wait for confirmation, type DELETE and confirm only when the client and all related financial records are intended to be removed.

34. Two practical examples from start to finish

Example A: a proprietor with Tally books and a CompuTax workflow

Assume a proprietor runs a trading business and maintains the books in Tally.

  1. Create the business client and enter the separate proprietor name and correct PAN.
  2. Create the current financial with the correct comparative period.
  3. Establish the approved PY baseline.
  4. Review AS applicability using actual business criteria.
  5. Fetch the current-year Tally data through the connector, review mapping and import it.
  6. Review stock already present in the books and complete the required closing-stock treatment.
  7. Correct any missing expenses through supported balanced entries.
  8. Review proprietor capital, contributions, drawings and the profit linkage.
  9. Complete PPE, notes and the relevant disclosures.
  10. Reconcile Financials (ICAI) with Traditional Financials and inspect the Trading/P&L result.
  11. Complete signing details and download the final financial statements.
  12. Open ITR JSON and choose Download Computax Excel.
  13. Import the financial workbook into the correct CompuTax assessee and AY, compare the figures, finish the return and validate it there.
  14. Preserve the completed app version and client backup.

Example B: a partnership starting with old Excel accounts and preparing ITR JSON

Assume a partnership has current-year draft accounts in Excel and a previous filed ITR-5.

  1. Read the Excel accounts through Quick Convertor and review the detected statements, dates and units.
  2. Review recovered capital, asset, stock and financial figures, then generate the draft.
  3. Save it into the appropriate assureFinancials client and financial assignment after reviewing the replacement scope.
  4. Review the firm's partner-account method and each year's partner ratios.
  5. Complete partner contributions, drawings, remuneration and interest in the appropriate workings, checking P&L effects separately.
  6. Reconcile book depreciation, inventory, capital and the financial statements.
  7. Review the traditional statements against the ICAI presentation.
  8. Open ITR JSON, confirm PAN, form and AY, and import the appropriate Prefill and previous filed ITR-5 where available.
  9. Review tax-block mapping, opening tax WDV and disposal proceeds.
  10. Compile Data, resolve or document open items and compile again after corrections.
  11. Generate ITR JSON and download the selected version and report.
  12. Import the draft into the receiving tax software, complete the remaining return, recalculate and validate before producing its final filing file.
  13. Preserve the approved accounts, generated files and client backup.

Both examples use assureFinancials at https://assureoffice.in to keep the financial preparation connected with the supporting review and the downstream tax-data work.

35. Common issues and what to review

The business name appears correctly but the capital name is wrong. Review the separate Proprietor Name or partner records and the relevant capital working. A trade name and an individual's name serve different purposes.

Capital does not agree with the Balance Sheet. Review opening, contributions, drawings, linked profit, current-account method and any saved working override. Check whether a profit transfer was also treated as a contribution.

Partner remuneration was added in capital but P&L did not change. The current partner table saves capital movements without posting a TB or expense entry. Review the corresponding P&L accounting separately.

A partner profit allocation is not saving. Check the edited year's partner percentages and ensure they total 100%, then review the account to which profit belongs.

The Balance Sheet changes after an amount edit. Inspect the exact edit, its controlling working and any AE impact. Reconcile the financial effect instead of applying another unexplained balancing amount.

PPE working and TB depreciation differ. Review whether book depreciation is already in the TB and whether an explicit Post AE action is needed or has been duplicated.

A tax WDV field remains pending. Confirm the relevant previous filed return or enter a supported opening tax WDV. A book asset opening is not automatically a confirmed tax value.

Traditional Financials does not show a PY column. Its statement output is current-year only. Review comparatives in Financials (ICAI) and both years in the relevant reconciliation controls.

A Traditional Financials difference remains while download works. Draft export is allowed with review items. Open Checks against ICAI and resolve the actual source, working or mapping issue.

ITR JSON is unavailable for another entity type. Check that entity's enabled feature set. The full Traditional/ITR workflow in this guide is verified for Proprietorship and Partnership.

The ITR draft has a pending label. Read the generated report and the workspace's open-item list. Check financial reconciliation, missing sources, unsupported fields and form/AY validation before finalising the return.

CompuTax downloaded an Excel instead of JSON. That is the intended financial-export format. Use the receiving software's supported Excel financial-data import facility.

A portal rejects a generated draft. Confirm that the draft was used through the intended tax-software preparation process, with current-year validation, remaining schedules, calculations and final software-generated filing metadata completed.

Old figures remain in a downloaded file. Save the current financial changes, verify the active version, compile or generate again where required and use the newly downloaded file.

36. The final review checklist

  • Completed financial version and whole-client backup preserved.

37. Frequently asked questions

1. Which businesses does this complete guide cover?

The guide focuses on Proprietorship and Partnership, for which the current saved-client workflow connects Financials (ICAI), Traditional Financials and the ITR draft workspace.

2. Are non-corporate accounts the same as company Schedule III financial statements?

Use the appropriate non-corporate presentation and applicable accounting requirements for the entity. This guide follows the app's non-corporate workflow rather than treating a proprietor or partnership as a company.

3. Can I use assureFinancials without Tally?

Yes. You can use the app's structured Master Template, supported TB Excel workflow, old-financials conversion and other eligible source routes.

4. Should I select first-year financials when adding an old client for the first time?

No. Answer according to whether the business has previous financial statements, not whether it has previously used assureFinancials.

5. Why does a proprietor have both a business name and a Proprietor Name field?

The business name identifies the trading concern. The proprietor field identifies the individual behind it and is relevant to capital and signing presentation.

6. Can one client have several versions for the same financial year?

Yes. Use distinct appropriate names and types so a working, bank or final assignment is identifiable. Check the active version before every material action.

7. Can I copy approved previous-year figures into a new financial?

Use Copy PY from a saved financial when the source dates match the new comparative period. Review the copied figures and workings, then establish the new CY separately.

8. Does an app classification badge prove eligibility for accounting relaxations?

No. Review actual criteria, the applicable requirements and the selected options. A default or prefilled figure is not evidence of the underlying business fact.

9. Is the corporate flexible TB import tab available in this workflow?

The corporate import tab is separate. Non-corporate clients have their own Trial Balance Export TB and Import TB controls and the structured Master Template route.

10. Does TB Excel re-import add only the edited rows?

No. The selected-year TB replacement can remove rows missing from the replacement workbook. Review the complete preview and preserve the intended full ledger set.

11. Can I import current and previous years from Tally?

The connector supports the reviewed current-year and optional PY workflow. Confirm Import PY TB also, the appropriate company data and the actual dates before fetching.

12. Can I use Tally files without a live connector?

Yes. Use the supported accounting masters XML and ledger-wise TB Excel file route, then review and import the processed data.

13. Does importing Tally complete the capital account automatically?

Review the imported data, account method, contributions, drawings, profit linkage and saved working. The availability of a capital ledger does not establish every movement's nature.

14. Can old traditional Excel accounts be brought into the app?

Use Old Financials Excel in Quick Convertor, review the detected information, generate financials and save the result into the appropriate assureFinancials client.

15. Can Quick Convertor directly provide all tax and traditional outputs?

The public converter offers its enabled financial PDF/Excel variants. Save the assignment into the app to continue with Traditional Financials and the connected tax-export workspace.

16. Will saving converted data into an existing client preserve every prior edit?

Do not assume that. Review the selected-year replacement preview and preserve a whole-client backup before replacing existing TB, adjustments or workings.

17. Can a filed ITR provide previous-year financial figures?

An eligible filed ITR-3 or ITR-5 can be reviewed through Use as PY Financials. Complete details missing from the return and verify the resulting comparative baseline.

18. Does a previous filed return supply current-year trading transactions?

No. Establish current-year books from the appropriate current source. The previous return contributes relevant previous-year or opening tax information.

19. Can I change financial amounts after import?

Yes. Use TB corrections, balanced adjustments, eligible note edits or the controlling working. Review the resulting statement and reconciliation after saving.

20. Can I overwrite every total directly?

Linked totals and specialised calculations have controlling inputs. Follow the capital, PPE, stock or other working provided instead of treating every displayed amount as a free input.

21. Does a classification split create an accounting entry?

A split allocates the existing adjusted closing across reviewed categories. It does not by itself create an audit entry or change the original total.

22. What does Show Line Items do?

It changes eligible note detail by displaying supporting ledger lines. Review the resulting presentation and total; it is not a new source of accounting amounts.

23. How is the proprietor's closing capital reviewed?

Check opening capital, contributions, drawings and linked profit or loss, along with other supported movements. Reconcile the resulting closing with the financial statements.

24. What is different about fixed and fluctuating partner capital?

The selected method can direct profit and current movements to a separate current account or the relevant capital account. Review the firm's actual method and the resulting note treatment.

25. Do partner ratios need review for both years?

Yes. Review each edited year's partners and percentages, which must total 100% in the current editor. A change in the partnership can make the years different.

26. Does saving partner remuneration in capital post the expense?

The current partner table does not post a TB or audit entry. Review the related P&L expense separately and make the appropriate accounting correction where needed.

27. Is a separate Distribute Profit step always required?

The current capital-note editor uses linked P&L profit and the reviewed year's allocation. Follow that active working rather than assuming every capital note has a separate button.

28. Does saving PPE depreciation always change the TB?

Review the explicit posting option. A working save and a Post AE action have different effects, and depreciation already in the books should not be posted again.

29. Can I use book opening value as opening tax WDV?

Confirm the tax WDV from the relevant tax records or supported previous return. The tax-mapping workflow does not automatically replace missing tax WDV with book opening value.

30. Why does closing stock need a separate review?

Its effect may already be present in source books or may be provided separately. Reconcile the Balance Sheet inventory and P&L/trading effect without duplication.

31. Does Traditional Financials maintain another independent set of accounts?

No. Its controlling amounts come from Financials (ICAI), with supporting detail and presentation mapping reviewed for consistency.

32. Does Traditional Financials show both CY and PY?

Its statement output is current-year only. Comparative financial figures are available in Financials (ICAI); control screens can inspect both years.

33. Can I download a T-form or vertical traditional Balance Sheet?

The individual traditional download menu offers Horizontal (T-form) and Vertical layout choices. Review the selected layout in the downloaded PDF or Excel.

34. Can I download ICAI and traditional statements together?

Use Combined PDF — ICAI + Traditional where available. Inspect the combined document after the last saved financial changes.

35. Where is the ITR JSON option?

Open Financials → Download → Tax Portal JSONs → ITR JSON for a supported client. The Traditional Financials Download menu can provide the same shortcut.

36. Must I upload the prepared financials again in the ITR workspace?

No. Your financials are read directly. Prefill and the previous filed ITR are additional supporting sources, not replacements for the prepared current-year accounts.

37. Are Prefill and last year's ITR compulsory before compiling a draft?

The compiler can work without them and flag missing information for review. PAN is required for ITR JSON generation; supporting sources can improve completeness.

38. What must I review after importing Prefill?

Confirm identity and AY, review any proposed client-master updates and compare reported income and credits with the financial records and compiled draft.

39. What does Compile Data do?

It reads the prepared financials and available supporting sources, constructs the supported draft schedules and identifies mappings, reconciliations and open items for review.

40. Does a ready-to-generate status mean the return is ready to file?

It describes the app's draft-generation state. Complete the receiving tax software's remaining schedules, tax calculation, metadata and current-year validation before filing.

41. What does _PENDING in a generated filename mean?

The generated version has identified items needing attention. Read its report, correct the relevant source or complete the required information and regenerate as appropriate.

42. Can a draft be generated when the Balance Sheet does not tally?

The workflow can allow a draft with that difference reported as an open item. Investigate and resolve the accounting issue before treating the return as final.

43. Can I upload the assureFinancials ITR draft directly to the portal without further work?

The intended workflow is import into ITR software, completion and recalculation, validation and generation of the final filing file there. Do not assume an unconditional direct-upload capability.

44. Is CompuTax export JSON or Excel?

It is a .xls financial-import workbook, downloaded through Download Computax Excel. The ITR draft JSON is a separate output.

45. Must I compile first or upload Prefill before downloading CompuTax Excel?

The export compiles fresh financial data on download and does not require those prior actions. Review the underlying accounts and the imported result in CompuTax.

46. Does the CompuTax workbook contain every tax-return field?

No. It uses a supported financial-import template. Complete unmapped items and the remaining return information in CompuTax, with particular review of partner remuneration and interest categories.

47. Is the non-corporate Excel Final Only output available separately?

Yes. The main financial Download menu provides the final workbook without TB as well as Excel with TB and workings, subject to the client's enabled access.

48. Will an old downloaded JSON or Excel update after I edit the accounts?

No. Save the financial changes, recompile and generate a new draft or download a fresh workbook, then review the new file.

49. Is Sign & Close the same as signing or filing the return?

No. It locks and preserves the app's financial version. External signing, return preparation, filing and verification remain separate actions.

50. What should I preserve at the end of the assignment?

Keep the approved financial outputs, relevant working and tax-check reports, the intended generated tax files, the completed financial version and a whole-client backup ZIP.
